Losing weight and getting healthy does not fall solely on the calories you eat and the calories you burn. There are a variety of factors that contribute to your overall cardiac health and waistline that require thorough examination. Our Fit in Your GENES program uses functional and integrative therapy based on genome, environment, nutrition, exercise and supplements as an integrative medicine program to prevent and treat cardiovascular disease and risk factor modification. Fit in Your GENES can also be used for using nutraceuticals, medical foods and supplements for patients with dyslipidemia, metabolic syndrome, hypertension, ischemic heart disease, arrhythmia, congestive heart failure, and for weight loss. Our Fit in Your GENES program incorporates scientifically-validated and emerging technologies, such as nutrigenomics, pharmacogenomics, activity trackers, as well as behavioral, detoxification and nutraceutical protocols.
The five areas Fit in Your GENES touches are genome, environment, nutrition, exercise and supplements.
Genome is used for testing nutrigenomics and pharmacogenomics. These tests determine the variability in macronutrient and micronutrient balance, processing of lipids, carbohydrates, saturated fats, genetics predispositions, weight loss-regain and response of blood pressure and lipids to exercise within each individual. This testing is used to assess medication safety and refine the pharmacological treatment.
Environment measures metabolic and environmental toxicity. These assessments are important parts of the program by determining the type, frequency and duration of detoxification protocols. This hormone testing, expanded lipid analysis and sampling of several inflammatory markers are crucial in regulating the influences of the environment on cardiac and vascular diseases and risk factors.
Nutrition is next in the program list. Nutrition is directed by the genomic and environmental assessments. There can be food eliminated on an individual’s diet based on the holistic nutritionist assessment. The nutritional part of the program uses a software to provide periodic assessments on ongoing communication and daily email patient support.
Exercise directs patients to local resources such as gyms, yoga studios, cycling studios or other types of exercises resources based on their genetic predispositions, environmental exposures and nutritional assessments. Consultants in the program will identify these resources or develop a group practice class on site.
Lastly, are supplements. Every patient in the FIYG program are supervised by a cardiologist and a nutritionist for supplement intake. Supplements that will be given are anti-inflammatory and energy-producing supplements which consist of fish oils, magnesium, green tea extract and many more that has shown benefits for patients with cardiovascular disease or risk factors.
